The Howard Hughes Corporation will partner with Project Destined to launch a mentorship program in the greater Houston area for the first time.

The partnership aims to cultivate diversity and inclusion in the next generation of real estate industry leaders, according to a Jan. 18 release. Among efforts, Project Destined partners with leading real estate firms and more than 70 universities across the country to mentor and encourage underrepresented students to explore the industry through internships and experience analyzing live local real estate deals.

"Project Destined shares HHC's commitment to helping create an industry that is representative of the many communities it serves," David O'Reilly, Chief Executive Officer of The Howard Hughes Corporation, said in the release.

The Howard Hughes Corporation — one of the nation’s leading developers of large-scale master planned communities and mixed-use properties — said this comes as Project Destined continues to mentor and transform the industry with more equitable opportunities and standards.

According to the project website, Project Destined is one of the leading education platforms, with experience in training underserved youth.

With the partnership, student interns will be paired with mentors from the Howard Hughes Corporation to participate in project destined-led training, mentor office hours and competitive team pitch presentations. The internship will run for students in the spring semester mentorship program and focus on real estate investments and property management.

Taking place virtually, any student in high school or college courses is invited to apply. Interns will work eight hours per week and will receive $500 for their time, though weekly competitions will offer the opportunity to win additional cash prizes.
