Texas home sales in 2020 numbered 393,618, representing an 82% increase over sales figures for 2011, according to new data compiled by Texas Realtors.
In a report titled “A Decade in Texas Real Estate,” the Realtors group also reported that the median home price in Texas in 2020 was $259,188, 76% higher than what was recorded in 2011.
On average, Texas homes put up for sale last year spent 55 days on the market, compared to 93 days in 2011, according to the Texas Realtors analysis. That represents a 41% decrease for the past decade.
Some Texas metro areas, meanwhile, outpaced the state in home sales numbers and median prices. The biggest spike occurred in the Sherman-Denison area, which saw its home sales increase 123% in 2020 compared to 2011. Its median home price spiked 130% over the same period, the report said.
Austin’s home sales numbers also outpaced the state as a whole, with home sales increasing 92% and the median home price reaching $343,914, a 78% increase.
The Houston area saw a large rise in home sales over the 2011-2020 period, but the metro area’s home sales were below the state average. Houston-area home sales in 2020 numbered 99,339, reflecting a 71% increase over 2011 sales, and the median home price rose 68% over the median price in 2011, according to the report.
