New Braunfels' Public Library announced an addition after the area sees an influx of new residents.
The library is expanding by 31,000 square feet, increasing the library’s footprint to 58,000 square feet, per Recenter.
“[A] $35M expansion underway at New Braunfels Public Library," Providence Group Realty said in a Sept. 1 tweet.
The expansion will give the library a 200-person lecture-style room, an outdoor classroom, a community garden, a drive-thru window and additional library parking, Recenter said.
The expansion will double the size of the building, which right now stands at 27,000 square feet, Express News also reported.
Express News also said that 34,000 people, about half of the city’s population, are active library card users in New Braunfels.
Founded in 1923, New Braunfels Public Library all began with one shelf of books at a downtown location. It has since transitioned into a city-owned library with over 135,000 items offered free to all citizens that reside in the city limits. Scanning, faxing, computers with internet access, photocopiers and open Wi-Fi are a few services offered at the library. Programs include book clubs, computer classes, gardening, yoga, tai chi, crafting, job skill workshops and yearly summer reading program, according to the library website.
