Construction of an Austin-based financial-technology company is expected to seriously ramp up in the industrial park of tiny Bastrop after getting hundreds of thousands in concessions last month.

Moca Ventures Nebraska LLC plans to develop 26.5-acre site in Bastrop Business and Industrial Park, the Austin Business Journal reported in a news story published Sept. 20. Among other incentives, the city of Bastrop agreed to reimburse Moca the approximately $900,000 for the property purchase, assuming the company occupies the space by Dec. 1, 2026. The company is expected to invest at least $10.7 million in its Bastrop headquarters in a complex expected to cover a minimum of 40,000 square feet.

"Welcome Moca Ventures to the city of Bastrop," Mayor Connie Schroeder said during an Aug. 26 Bastrop City Council meeting. "We're happy to have those kind of jobs and see some great activity in our business park."

The following month, on Sept. 14, city council unanimously approved incentives to encourage Moco to build it's "Google-like" headquarters that could, eventually, create up to 700 jobs.

"We're going to have very high-paid jobs," Moca CEO John Burns said in an Austin American-Statesman news story published shortly after the city council vote. "Mainly engineers and operations people. So, very, very talented people because this is a very, very important job."

At least 400 jobs will be created for workers in three buildings in positions that include software engineering and technology-focused positions. A call center also is planned.

The average salary at the new headquarters is expected to be $100,000.

The median household income in Bastrop, about 30 miles southeast of Austin, was $62,627 in 2019, the Austin Business Journal news story said, citing U.S. Census Bureau data.

Shortly after the city council's vote, the company announced it would begin constructions of the first two buildings within nine months.

Moca is a financial technology company that provides services to make credit card transactions easier.
