The Austin Housing Finance Corporation announced this month that they are seeking proposals from non-profit organizations in the area to provide home repairs and roofing services to homeowners that are low- and moderate-income.

The funds available come from the G.O. Repair! Program, and total $7 million that will be handed out in grants.

According to the press release, "The G.O. Repair! Program seeks to eliminate health and safety hazards and improve accessibility for low- and moderate-income homeowners in Austin. It also encourages collaboration with other local programs to reduce waiting lists and to improve non-profits’ capacity to provide home repair services. The program provides up to $20,000 of assistance per home per fiscal year."

One requirement of the AHFC for applicant non-profits is that they should have previous experience in home repairs to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the program.

The statement also laid out other requirements, saying, "Eligible repairs include (but are not limited to) accessibility modifications and accommodations for the elderly and those with disabilities, lead abatement for homes built before 1978, and home rehabilitation that involves the replacement of major systems (e.g., plumbing, roofing, air conditioning, electrical, foundation and other major interior and exterior repairs)."

The funds originate from a 2018 general obligation bond set aside by the G.O. Repair! program.
