The demand for housing in Houston is as high as it has ever been, with the real estate market continuing to set records each month. While this is good news for homeowners looking to sell, it makes things difficult for people and families looking to buy.
For many, buying a home is simply too expensive and out of reach. The increase in housing prices has even priced some people out of their own home due to property taxes. A nonprofit in Houston is seeking to incentivize and provide affordable housing in the area.
LINK Houston posted a testimonial on Twitter to talk about their mission, saying, “New to advocacy, we also attended a technical training offered by LINK Houston, a transportation-advocacy nonprofit, through Avenue CDC, an affordable housing nonprofit. They provided support on how to engage and advocate to change TxDOT-sized infrastructure projects.”
The Houston Community Land Trust, a nonprofit organization, helps low-income families buy homes and keep them affordable. The rise in home sales and prices threatens to make room for gentrification and the displacement of low-income families. The nonprofit, which recently closed on its 50th house, was established in 2018.
Houston continues to be a popular area for professionals relocating for work, which has contributed to drastic housing price increases over the past two years.
