Plano made the list of best places to live in the United States, ranking 17th on the national list by the website Livability.

"Right now, millions of people are reevaluating where they want to live," Livability said. "If you’re one of them, this list is for you."

The website analyzed more than 1,000 small- to mid-sized cities, ranking them on factors such as safety, affordability, economic stability, outdoor recreation, accessibility and community engagement.

"These 100 cities offer the exact things so many of us are craving right now: connection, affordability and the space and opportunity to grow," it said.

Madison, Wis. was the top city on the list followed by Ann Arbor, Mich., Overland Park, Kan., Frederick, Md. and Charlottesville, Va.

Plano, a city of 302,806 people, is home of the headquarters of Pizza Hut. It was cited for its shopping, healthy downtown, arts and parks.

"Plano, Tex., has everything you need in one city," Livability said. "It’s a shopping destination all on its own with two huge upscale shopping centers, The Shops at Legacy and Legacy West, along with a downtown full of local boutiques. Art lovers can spend days exploring the Downtown Plano Arts District with its community of performing arts events, galleries, boutiques and concert halls. Nature lovers can enjoy more than 4,000 acres of parks, while foodies can choose from more than 1,000 dining options."

Plano was also cited for its remote work capabilities.

"This tech-savvy city has plenty of co-working spaces to choose from when you need time away from your home office," Livability said.

The city's balloon festival also merited a mention.

"Plano’s most beloved festival is a three-day event called the Plano Balloon Festival, where every September, dozens of colorful hot air balloons fill the sky," Livability said.
