Dodec Inc. Vice President Dean Lindo has put together a YouTube video explaining how to fix any garbage disposal, which is on a channel called “Deanin’ It Yourself,” aimed at people trying to fix appliances at home.

“If your garbage disposal has no power, is making a humming noise or the blades are stuck, then this is the right video for you,” Lindo said in the video.

Lindo tells viewers to make sure the disposal is on and plugged in. Then he advises viewers to look under the garbage disposal and find the reset switch. If the garbage disposal still doesn’t work after this, it is probably stuck, he says. The garbage disposal tool should go in the middle hole and be turned, and if it doesn’t turn it could be clogged, Lindo instructs.

Lindo shows how to remove the pipes connected to the disposal and remove the disposal. After that, he demonstrates how to insert the tool into the disposal, tapping it with a hammer to free the blades.

“Now all we have to do is turn it on and see if we get any power,” Lindo said, adding that it's “a job well done.”

Lindo graduated from Clemson University’s mechanical engineering program. He has used his experience to help with “do it yourself skills” in-home projects in an effort to help viewers save money.

Deanin’ It Yourself offers videos for all kinds of do-it-yourself projects, including fixing computers, video games and more. Viewers are also sometimes eligible for prizes.
