San Antonio's far west side is getting a lot of attention from one of the region's largest retail outlets, H-E-B.
H-E-B recently opened a new store in that part of town and a local news outlet recently reported about plans to expand another.
The new store opened the day before Halloween at 211 and Potranco Rd., on the far west side at 14325 Potranco Rd., and comes in at 112,000 square feet of H-E-B product assortments and convenient services, the company said in a statement.
"This new store will allow us to better serve the needs of the growing community in San Antonio’s far west side," H-E-B Public Affairs spokesperson Whitney White said in the Oct. 29 release. "With the highest standard of service and top-quality selection, we are excited to offer our customers a world-class store that will enhance their shopping experience."
H-E-B, founded in 1905, employs more than 137,000 in more than 420 stories in Texas and Mexico, including dozens of locations in San Antonio, and takes in $32 billion a year in sales, according to information on its website.
Services and features offered at the new store include curbside and home delivery, pharmacy with drive-thru, gas station with car wash, craft and import beers and wines, meat and fish markets, a huge deli and bakery, and a floral department with certified floral designers.
Meanwhile, almost 20 miles away on Bandera Rd., H-E-B is planning a $3.8 million, 24,000-square-foot addition to one of its older far westside stores, according to an Oct. 20 My San Antonio news story that cited a recent filing with the Texas Department with Licensing and Regulation.
The project at the Bandera Rd. store will be an expansion of its pickup space, which right now is a smaller space on the building's east side. The new pickup area will boast a public cul-de-sac, nearby store parking and a drainage channel realignment.
The project's projected start date is in May of next year and is expected to be completed in 2023.
