Round Rock is getting an Amazon distribution center.
The company recently submitted a rezoning and annexation application to the city of Round Rock for a 193-acre site east of E. McNeil Rd. and north of Highway 45, the Austin Business Journal reported. The application is for a "large-format warehouse and distribution center," the story said.
“Amazon's status as one of the largest and fastest-growing employers in the Austin metro could get another boost!” Rela Manigsaca of
Realty Austin posted on Facebook.
Some Round Rock residents aren't happy about the news, Community Impact newspaper reported. They said Amazon purchased the property before getting community input on the project.
"If you buy Amazon, and you're against this, you need to vote with your dollar," Round Rock resident Terry Meyers said during a meeting about the project.
Amazon manager of economic development Jessica Breaux said construction on the $250 million project would not start until three to five years from now, the story said.
She cited extra tax revenue to the city as a benefit.
"We are subject to all of the rules and regulations of the city of Round Rock," Breaux said, Community Impact reported. "That includes all of the development standards, screening, driveway requirements, landscaping, drainage, all of those things. That also includes behavioral ordinances. If there's an issue, you can call the city of Round Rock and they will come and be able to enforce those ordinances."
