Texas recently ranked the third most popular state for international homebuyers.
From April 2020 to March 2021, out of 107,000 available homes nationwide, international homebuyers bought 9,630 homes in Texas, according to a Texas International Homebuyers Report from Texas Realtors. Sales totaled approximately $4.9 billion in sales and the state ranks as the third most popular state in the nation for international homebuyers, just behind Florida and California.
Sales of U.S. homes to international buyers decreased by approximately 31% compared to last year, according to Texas Real Estate Research Center.
"The pandemic had a significant impact on the number of foreign homebuyers over the last year," Marvin Jolly, chairman of Texas Realtors said, according to Texas Real Estate Research Center.
"Even so, Texas remained one of the top destinations for people around the world to purchase a house here. International homebuyers continue to choose Texas because they recognize the strength of our economy, abundance of investment opportunities, and attractive cost of living."
Of these, 42% of international homebuyers come from Latin America/Caribbean, 30% come from the Asian/Oceania region and India accounted for 11% of international homebuyers.
The Texas International Homebuyers Report was gleaned from the 2021 International Transactions in U.S. Residential Real Estate by the National Association of REALTORS® and the 2021 edition of the Commercial Real Estate International Business Trends.
